Installation of a new integrated electric cooker (Read 2266 times)

Installation of a new integrated electric cooker

I am refitting my kitchen and have been informed by a friend that if I am installing a new electric cooker, and if it has a single oven, then I can plug it straiting into an ordinary socket, I am not sure he is right! any views?

Yes, he is right.
Read the info supplied with the oven, and it will tell you in there how much current it draws. The large current draw is an electric hob, which needs a 6mm feed.

er....... are you sure?

We've just installed an electric hob that required a 10mm supply and the oven needed a dedicated 32a/6mm supply.

'Plugging' in an oven means it will run through a 13a fuse.  Read the oven's data plate, it will tell you the rating.

Many do, but some don't, like Jerry says read the instructions, the ones I've been fitting recently (German multi element) all seem to take 16A so can't be pluged straight into a 13A socket.
