Humming fluorscents
Oct 8th, 2006, 9:34am

I've fitted fluorscents lights on top of the wall units of a kitchen I've recently fitted. Trouble is they hum, not a lot, but it's obviously being amplified by the cabinets and annoying the customer. These weren't cheap fittings, so do you know of any make that doesn't hum?

Or are HF units less prone to humming?

WS

You could try putting a couple of extra screws in them or even a dab of silicone sealant under them,
Even better can you screw them to the wall instead of the cabinets?

Not sure about the HF fittings

HF fittings have no choke/inductor, so will not hum.

It is a common problem, expecially in offices with cheap switch start 600x1200 fittings in the suspended ceilings.....the ceiling really does start to buzz!

As said, fix to the wall, or fix to the carcase with something inbetween - something spongy that will be ok with the heat.  A couple rubber washers may be enough.

Grin this is the trouble they only know one tune and keep humming it all the time, and it is not exactly one of my Pet sounds Wink

I've tried isolating them with rubber pads and the wall is studded so sounds like I would be better off getting some HF ones.

Thanks for the help
