Wiring upa CU - how to make it neat!
Jul 22nd, 2008, 1:20pm

Well, wired up the new CU. The demo video that I watched on the MK site regarding 17th ed CU's looked very neat and tidy....but then he only had a couple of final circuits.

After installing my ten, it does look a little like a dogs dinner and so I wondered how you pro's did it? Do you wire up all the earths first (oh..OK...protective circuit conductors or whatever the current fancy name is...they're still b***y earths ) and then the neutrals and then bring the lives down in front of the earths/neutrals?

Or just whack 'em in as they come and move on  Wink

Would all Third Party Apologists kindly mind their own business .....

On smaller boards I will put all earth is, then the neutrals and then the lives.

Loop the lives down behind the MCB and back up - You only need to concentrate on the last loop then.

For larger boards, I work circuit by circuit.  You get to know the type of board you regularly fit, and know the tricks on how to get it neat with that board.

No real tips - Just practice!

Do you mark your cables in some way Lec, cuz i found doing the cpc's, then the neutrals etc... quite a task as you have to try and remember which neutral went with wat earth? Currently i go cpc then neutral so i only have to keep track of the lines, my boards look neat, but ur right they are all different. I like working with MK cu's on the smaller ones, they "let" you be neat and the screws are all nicely undone for u ready to do up! I normally cut the cpc's and neutrals to length, try not to leave too much hanging around inside the cu because that can make a board look crap also. A cu in general doesnt get changed that often, mainly when a place is gonna be rewired or when new regs come into force i.e 17th, which is why i dont leave slack in a small board but instead try and leave slack in the space where the cables lay above or below, its not aways the case tho, every situation is different isnt it. Merlin Gerin boards are the best cuz they can be massive and have lots of room to be neat    Roll Eyes

No, I dont mark any cables while stripping and terminating.  I only do all earths and all neutrals first on smaller boards, like 4, 6 and *maybe* 8 way.
