sorry if this question has been answered a million times already.

just wanted to get a clear answer on this part p stuff.

im a qualified electrician. to do certain domestic work i need to get part p registered. correct?
if so, how? can i do a course and obtain it that way? i noticed the nic do an inspection of a couple of jobs is that another route?

Generally the householder having the work done  must comply with the Building Regulations including Part P. Not all electrical work is notifiable but if it is there are three options the householder can take:

1) DIY AND make a Building Control Application.
or
2) hire an electrician AND make a Building Control Application.
or
3) Hire an electrician that is a Part P qualified person scheme member and thereby avoid the need to make a Building Control Application.

Option 3 is generally cheaper so if you are an electrician you may loose some work if you aren't a scheme member. Until then you should really tell the householder if needs to make a Building Control Application for work you are doing.

Examples of notifiable work include: Outdoor electrics, new sockets in kitchens and instalation of some types of low voltage downlights. For others see Part P.
