Leaking hose connectors
Jun 27th, 2009, 2:07pm

Help! I have a leak under the kitchen sink. The water was coming out the top of the Y tube that connects the dishwasher and washing machine hoses to the cold water supply. So I bought a new y tube and changed it. The water then started to come out of the top of the dishwasher hose. So I disconnected the dishwasher hose AND the Y tube and plugged the washing machine hose directly into the cold water supply. Guess what, the water then started to leak out of the top of the washing machine hose!. Do I need to get whole new washing machine and dishwasher hoses (the washers seem ok). The problem seems to be that nothing tightens up high enough to make a water tight seal - I don't want to force it and break the plastic and anyway, when i try to tighten any of the hoses the Y tube moves and then that starts to leak! Am really fed up.  Sad

Have you lost the rubber washers that are inset inside the bit you tighten with your hand?  There should be some black washers that sit *fairly* loosly inside.

Yes, there's definitely a washer in the hose. Do you think I should just go for brute force (or pliers) and try and tighten it really well. I'm afraid I will tighten it too much - is that possible ie break it or not be able to undo it?

They do need to be fairly tight.

Is the flange clean where the washer butts up to?  Is the washer clean, flat and in good condition.

It may be worth while putting some vasaline on the rubber too - That may help?? (I am no plumber!).

Problem sorted thanks to Lectrician! Don't know if was the confidence I got from him but I really tightened the hoses and used vaseline (hm, that sounds dodgy...).

what a great forum.

Not quite so fed up female today (except I'm going to be painting next!!) Smiley
