i am basically looking for the name of a material. probably really simple but no-one seems to know or can help...
i want to put up a big pinboard (about 1000mm2) on the wall to display the kids artwork etc. it's NOT cork, i would describe it as a fibrous manmade wood, with a papery texture (similar to watercolour paper) to the front and is obviously soft enough to put pins in. it's about 20mm thick and comes in a sheet.
i had the same material on my bedroom wall in a metal frame when i was a child. and schools have loads of it in the corridors displaying art work.
i am on a tight budget (and i haven't found anything suitable to buy ready made anyway) so ideally want to go to some DIY outlet, buy the material, cut it and and paint it and screw it up to the wall but i do not know what it's called and no-one can tell me. i thought it was called chip board, but i have been advised this is hard and i would not be able to push a pin in it. the name fibreboard was also brought up, but when i have looked for this i am shown MDF, and i know it's not that either...
i am hoping that someone has an idea and can please advise.
thank you
