UV Lighting
Mar 24th, 2010, 10:03am

hello lads,

been asked to install some uv lighting in a pool hall, to illuminate uv pool balls.

the lighting current was installed by myself over a year ago there is a thread on here about it, 3 x 50W IRC MR16s over each table.

Buying the drop down canopy lights and converting them to have one normal flu and one uv flu is way too costly with the canopys alone coming out at over £2k (for 4).

So my idea is to install two 5/6ft flu's either side of the row of downlights,  this will not look that great so may go for T5s or Arrowslim to keep the fitting more compact without ruining the look in there.  And put the downlights on a dimmer to emphasize the uv.

Does this sound like it will work?

And does everyone use uv lamps (costly) or use the acrylic sleeves for the tubes?

cheers for any help given.

I think you can buy MR16 UV LEDs? No idea if they are bright enough.

UV isn't great on the eyes.

Ironically I think MR16 IRC halogen bulbs have filters to stop UV getting out.

The lamps are 'Blacklight' and not technically UV (no chance of a tan). Never seen sleeves for these but they might be available. Most common lamps are 36w (4') T8's or 400w discharge (Work on a Son igniter). There are some ~25w CFLs on the market which might work in a conventional R63 downlighter (if they still make them !)
