hooks in a shower cubicle
May 24th, 2013, 12:34pm

i bought some chrome hooks from ikea (braces for torrent of ikea related abuse) for our shower.  they are chrome plated metal (steel i'd guess?) and came with "3M" sticky pads to attach them.  one of them gets quite a bit of water falling on it, and has come off the wall.  what would be the best thing to stick it back with?  the wall is tiled with welsh slate, that has been sealed

I'd be fascinated to learn of a self-adhesive hook that not only sticks to a wall but actually stays stuck to a wall.

With a success rate of 50% I'd say you've been lucky.  Wink

Sikaflex EBT or an equivalent would be my option. You will need to support the fitting whilst it cures though.

Another tip is to use a hair dryer to heat up the self-adhesive pads before sticking them onto whatever you're hoping will take the fixture.

I've yet to try it myself so cant really comment but I've been told by several people that 'Pink Grip' will stick just about anything to anything, might be worth a try..

You could try 3M AUTOMOTIVE tape... the BLACK item/s... ultra thin, and well it keeps the trim strips in place on your vehicle....and look at the water they get...

you must use GENUINE 3M AUTOMOTIVE tape... and make sure where it is being adhered to is clean (use an alcohol pad-[medi-swap or similar] and clean both areas, wall and hook backing)...and do not subject to water or steam (well condesation) for 24hours...

most companies use the standard 3M white foams and tapes, useless in damp/wet conditions...

a decent automotive stockist or e-bay is worth a try....
