Varying sizes of waste pipes

Hi,
I have just had an extension built which includes a shower room. The project has gone way over budget, so I have had to take on a lot more of the finishing work than I had anticipated, to try and save some money if possible. In the shower room, I have had a plumber do the first fix, and I am now looking to connect up the shower, sink and toilet. The first thing I have noticed is the size of the waste pipes for the sink and shower are different, and not 1.5in. The sink pipe diameter is 36mm and the shower 43mm. How do I connect the waste from the sink and shower, when they come as standard 40mm? The plumber was going to fit the shower waste for me but told me it was no good, because it didn't fit the pipe. I am confused!!

McAlpine traps and most others fit most sizes.

Where its connected to the soil whould be the same brand.

Yes it is solvent weld. I will try and post a pic tomorrow.
I just had the thought that maybe he had installled it to make things awkward for me, knowing that I was doing the second fix and not him! I hope not!!
It just seems all the cheaper traps for sale are for 40mm pipes, but like you say, McAlpine do ones that fit, but at about 5 times the price of the one I have already bought.
I am probably just being paranoid! Roll Eyes

Every trap I look at is for 40mm pipe, but as I understand it, 43mm is standard UK size pipe. Am I missing something, or am I just being thick, lol! Thanks for bearing with me, Scruff. I did find one company that sells reducers though, but I think it was trade only, and then I would have to get solvent and a coupler etc...

I think missing some thing is on the cards Grin

Can we have some information please.

Where does the other end go ??

Is the basin and shower joined at some point ??

As above different makes are not always the same size, also solvent and push fit are different sizes.

43MM for example is a standard Terrain size.

McAlpine traps will fit any pipe I've yet to see.

The pipe joins with the sink waste, which then goes into a Saniflo unit. The sink waste is 36mm, so I am guessing I will have a similar problem finding a basin trap that will fit, lol! They are all solvent fixed except into the saniflo.
I think I will look for a McAlpine trap and be done with it, as that seems the easiest solution. I am just amazed that there are so few traps that fit our standard pipe size.
