Painting over Satinwood paint using emulsion?
May 5th, 2015, 5:27pm

We have a large wooden beam across our lounge where an extension was put in some years ago before we lived here. A couple of years ago we painted over the beam using satinwood paint, painting over the varnish that was on the wood. We are now wanting to paint over this and are considering whether this could be done using emulsion.

Soooo... is it ok to paint over Satinwood using emulsion paint? Are there any good reasons not to do this? Are there any tips you would give us in relation to doing this?

Thanks! Smiley

Satin emulsion may be ok but best to try a small area first, but matt emulsion probably won't stick to satinwood. If you want to use a matt emulsion give it a coat of diluted 50/50 oil based undercoat/white spirit first.

or Zinsser BIN-123  - brilliant paint.  In fact, this company makes a great range of paints and primers.  Knocks spots off the likes of Farrow & Ball (spit...)
