Electric AAwning Switch wiring help please (fixed)
Jul 11th, 2015, 11:52am

HI

I have a electric awning driven by a Somfy Apollo SLT motor, it has been acting up and now has stopped. Two years ago I had a total rewire of the house with the exception of the switch for the awning which was recycled. It appears the switch was damaged during this process, so I have searched for a new one. The switch is a dual sprung rocker switch (you have to keep it pressed to keep it working) I have brought one that was listed as a Blinds switch it is rated the same 230/240v 10amp.
My problem is I do not understand the wiring diagram when compared to the original, I am hoping someone can look at the photos and explain how to wire in the new switch a sketch would really help.
I have a album of photos 3 of the old switch with wires in and the diagram on the back and 1 pic of the diagram on the new switch.
Any informed help would be really great.

To me, it looks like you would put the two blues in a terminal block on there own, not connected to the switch.

The brown currently in P would go in L
The brown in 1 would go in A1
The black in 2 would go in B1

If the switch operates backwards, switch around A1 and A2.

It may not be the switch at fault of course!  Do you have a voltage meter?

Hi thank you for taking the time to look at my question. The original is disintegrating the plastic that the rocker pins clip into are all but gone and the chassis is all cracked.
Since posting it I have found a Somfy switch which seems to resemble the original exactly I have started to think I will have to splash out again. Somfy's web presence is so hard to negotiate their UK side is useless, they just want to sell new installs and not parts so I have resorted to the French website and google search. Here is a pic it looks to me like the set up I have.  Thanks again Smiley

I have just understood what you are saying about connecting the neutral outside the switch and I will give it a go before spending any more cash, we have a main board with double rcd and the circuit is independently fused so worse case the circuit is shut down.

If it's any help MK do a grid switch that is :

2 way
Centre Off
Momentary/Retractive (sprung to the off position)

http://www.ukelectricalsupplies.com/MK-White-2-Way-and-Off-Retractive-Grid-Switc...

Could be wired so that moving the switch up raises the awning, moving it down lowers it, releasing it stops it moving.

I haven't checked availability mind.

10 A version here..

https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/MKK4900.html?source=adwords&kw=mk%20k4900w...

The terminals on the back are marked 1,2, COM.

P would go in COM
The brown in 1 would go in 1
The black in 2 would go in 2
Neutrals joined in separate block

A big thank you to all those who pitched in, new switch is now in and doing it's job. It seems the problem is now the motor so I have ordered a new one as it looks like they are to complicated and fiddly for a fix.
