Boiler pump running continuously
Dec 22nd, 2015, 10:25am

I have a British Gas badged Worcester Combi 37i and it is controlled by Hive system. I notice that the pump runs continuously and only stops when the system is powered off. Is there some programming to the boiler that will alter this or will I have to put up with it - just seems a waste having the pump running all the time plus it will surely shorten its life.
Any ideas?

Does the pump stop when you run hot water.

How long has the hive been fitted and was it a diy job.

Hive fitted 1/12/15. No pump seems to run when hot tap is on, the old system was a British Gas badged Drayton Digi Stat RF =+ receiver, if I remember the pump stopped when the hot water was turned on and came back on after a rew mins. The Hive was fitted by BG, did have a problem with the receiver (no LED on when CH was on) that was changed. Googled this prob and it said "The boiler has a weather compensating controller fitted (FW100 or Wave smart internet connected controller). The pump will run constantly to monitor the flow temperature and maintain heat curve."
If that's the case is it possible to programme it out of the system?

Situation resolved - more by luck than anything else, Shut down system for 10 mins whilst I checked wiring from Hive receiver to boiler - when system was powered up again something must have reset as pump now goes off when CH is off. Sticking relay??  Funny since the system was powered down when receiver was replaced and system reprogrammed.   Huh  If anyone knows why feel free to explain.

Possibly a micro switch or relay is being held closed with a back feed, powering off will then free it till next time

Thanks for the reply
I suppose it would be impossible to get a schematic of the PCB to see what components are involved. Gone are the days when I started in the repair field when we faulted things down to component level and changed that part
