Self Levelling and Tiling

Hi, I have bought new tiles to lay on our front doorstep/porch way. I have pulled the old ones up and that has left a fair bit of adhesive. We also have a 2 inch deep space (21x17inch) that the door mat was in. I want to fill that hole in, my question is can I use levelling compound to do that and also do I need to get more of the old adhesive up before I use the compound? Also which compound would you recommend?
Many thanks in advance

I've answered this on your other post on the builders forum.
