Tiles onto Steel RSJ

We have a situation whereby we have been left with a steel that spans onto a tiled former.  Any suggestions as to how we can resolve this would be helpful.  Someone suggested tiles and we have contacted adhesive companies but no replies.  Does anyone know a solution that we can use?
Thanks

think i'd be tempted to stick some mesh to the steel (few spots of weld?) and then tile onto that after some rust proofing.  the adhesive would be able to grab the mesh nice and easily

I would cover the whole area to be tiled with an anti-fracture membrane or even a backer board.
