Outside electrical socket
May 17th, 2017, 11:27pm

Hello,
I have just purchased an outside RCD protected socket which is ip66 rated.
Part of the supplied instructions say that you MUST drill a small drainage hole for condensation to escape from the casing. A little later on it tells me that by drilling the drainage hole, it will lower the ip rating.
So I suppose my question is; how do I keep the ip rating at 66, if I have to drill a drainage hole?

Is the socket likely to be jet washed?

Most electricians will usually only drill the drain hole if you enter the socket with wiring on the rear or top.
