Cleaning silver fire inset

We recently had our walls plastered on lounge and unfortunately the plaster dust appears to have reacted to silver fire insert , which has turned horrible orange /brown dull colour . I’ve tried silver washes/ polishes with no improvement. Any ideas if this can be rectified?
Thanks

Is it actually made of silver or just silver coloured?
