Painting wood and MDF the same colour
Mar 27th, 2019, 7:28pm

Hi, I've recently had a kitchen installed and the MDF panels are a different shade to the real wood doors.  I'm told that 'because it's MDF it will always be different'.

I can't believe that car manufacturers can paint plastic and metal exactly the same shade, but no-one can match colours on MDF and wood! Am I right in thinking that, if correctly primed, the colour on the MDF should match that on the doors?  Any info gratefully received!

Wood and MDF can easily be painted exactly the same colour, the only difference you can get with some timbers is the surface texture can show, sometimes deliberately sometimes not. If you have a noticeable colour difference then my guess is the wood was either incorrectly primed or, if the MDF was painted separately that a different batch of paint was used.
