what would be a good timber to use for a decorative builders board that will spend its entire life outside?

Cheers

a what?

i dont understand wood. Most trees i've seen have been made of wood and manage to survive their entire lives outside.  maybe they're treated....

A railway sleeper would probably be a good candidate. Mind you, it might be a tad heavy to cart around and put on stands...... :)

Greg ,
If you mean an advertising board ,exterior grade ply edged up on the top and two sides would do.Other than that there are companies that will make one ofs for you out of plastic. :)

As splinter says a good quality birch ply edged in hardwood with a decent coat of oil based paint should last for quite some time.

I also think that a nice hand painted sign by a skilled signwriter looks a lot more professional than the computer cut vinyl that seems to have taken the skill out of signwriting.

I had a neighbour who was a signwriter and he used that MDO plywood.
