Title: Gas pipe not capped off.
Post by bobbee on Aug 6th, 2005, 3:06pm

Hello all you top class plumbers / gas fitters/ .

I am a sparks and got called out yesterday to quote for some work..customer has just " inherited " the house.

The thing is in the kitchen the gas pipe comes up from the cellar area and does not appear to be capped.
The gas must be on to the house 'cos the C/H is working.  It looks like someone has disconnected the cooker using the flexi hose and left it.  It looks like some sort of pressure valve system....??  Is there anything I can do  or is it best left to you guys ..

Cheers

bobbee, it is normal for cooker hoses to be "unplugged", leaving a brass fitting which is like a socket on the wall. The socket has a spring loaded valve in it, so it closes automatically when the "plug" (on the end of the cooker hose) is removed. It does not need to be capped off, but if it is not intended to use it for a long time (i.e. years), it might be best to have it capped off by a corgi reg. person, just in case the rubber seals ever develop leaks.

Hi thescruff (aka DIA, aka KIA).

Since we're just down the road (A4) or river (Avon) from each other, we ought to meet up sometime soon.
