Title: Waste Connection - Can I use This?
Post by Bayden_Rank on Aug 15th, 2005, 3:11pm

Hi I have been recommended to use this type of waste connector by the guy who is doing my building work.  Is this OK and more to the point, is it legal under building regs?  I have tried to add it as a pic but failed so please take a look at the link - if it works.

OK so I failed totally - the suggestion is that I use a pan conector with a take off to feed in the waste from the wash basin.  I have seen these at B&Q and also on the Macalpine web site.  I will be using it virtually horizontal whereas they show it vertical!

Hi the only problem that i can see with using one of these is that if your trap on the basin was to run dry, i.e. the water in it evaporates, you will get sewer gasses entering the building.......not good  :P

You should fit a anti-syphon trap as well. just to be on the safe side.

The fact that the waste connection is horizontal shouldn't cause you a prolem as long as your waste runs down towards the pan connector ;D

These  pan connectors with a 32mm socket are intended to be used pointing vertically downwards. Horizontal alignment might cause blockages and other problems, so I wouldn't accept it.

Should that be vertically upwards Chris.

Whatever the small pipe is on the top  ;D

Hi I did worry that it may be intended only to be fitted vertically :(

I have taken a pic which shows the actual angle at which the pipe has now been installed at (wilful these builders).  Not vertical I know but it may ease thing - won't it?

The waste pipe as per you're picture will block up

As per you're second picture which has just posted would be better

Should get plenty of fall on that mate.

Don't think you will have too many problems unless you start depilating extremly hairy areas over the sink. ;D ;D

Many thanks for your advice guys.  To be on the safe side I will be insisting on an anti-syphon trap or maybe a HEPvO self sealing waste valve.
