Title: Marley plastics.... Post by wotamess on Aug 16th, 2005, 1:36am I am replacing a bathroom suite which has a soil stack pipe dia. of 3". (..its been mentioned that rainwater pipe was used!?) To keep things simple I have managed to get Marley fittings to do the job which are slightly larger dia. How can I fit the larger dia. Marley pipe to the older smaller pipe (..about 3mm) ..this only needs to be connected at the ground level soil stack. I also have a Wickes Soil Vent valve unit for use internally..fits on top of the soil stack ( which runs up to through the loft and exits onto the roof.) Because of the pipe dia. probs. I assume I can use this "new" soil venting unit which fits using an adapter. ??? Any help appreciated...thanks! |

Title: Re: Marley plastics.... Post by bstyle on Aug 16th, 2005, 7:51am Are you sure that it's not just the vent pipe that is 3"? This was done quite often a few years ago on the vent pipe only as it was an acceptable minimum size. |

Title: Re: Marley plastics.... Post by chrishutt on Aug 16th, 2005, 9:00pm Could you give exact Outside Diameter (OD) measurements in mm for each type of pipe involved? I.e. 110 mm (4"), 82mm (3"), 68 mm (2.5" rainwater), etc.? |

Title: Re: Marley plastics.... Post by wotamess on Aug 16th, 2005, 11:43pm I will measure asap...the fittings are/were Osma. |

Then you should be using Osma or polypipe which will fit. Go to your nearest Plumbcentre |

Title: Re: Marley plastics.... Post by wotamess on Aug 17th, 2005, 9:29am Thanks for the advice scruff....but Plumbcentre do not stock Osma now! |

Title: Re: Marley plastics.... Post by wotamess on Aug 17th, 2005, 6:06pm O/ds are Osma pipe into soil at ground level = 75mm and the Marley replacement pipe dia. 82mm. So I need to adapt the 82mm down to fit into the 75mm...if you understand what I mean!...otherwise it means digging up and replacing the soil fitting which I don't think I'm capable of! |
|
Title: Re: Marley plastics.... Post by chrishutt on Aug 17th, 2005, 9:35pm 75mm OD is definitely non-standard for soil pipework. Is this the OD of pipe or fitting? If fitting, it might be a socket for 68mm rainwater pipe. Can you check this? If it really is soil pipework, you could try adapting to it with one of these http://www.flexseal.co.uk/products/fern-straight.htm |
|
Title: Re: Marley plastics.. Post by wotamess on Aug 17th, 2005, 10:54pm Thanks for that chrishutt..yes... 75mm is the o/d of the soil pipe ...therefore the 82mm Marley dia. poses a problem ??? ..it will slip over the 75mm dia. but then the problem will be a good enough seal. |
|
Title: Re: Marley plastics.... Post by chrishutt on Aug 17th, 2005, 11:59pm What about the link I gave you? No good? I'm still curious about where this 75mm OD Osma soil pipe came from. Have you asked Osma (Wavin Plastics) about it? If they can supply a socket, the socket might just have an OD of 82mm! Then you could connect using standard soil fittings. |

Title: Re: Marley plastics.... Post by wotamess on Aug 18th, 2005, 12:15am The link showed adjustable collars, but I don't think they would work in this situation ie. big dia. to small dia...and also the 3" soil pipe is too close to the house wall! I am going to a branch of Grahams in the morning...maybe they will have a fitting to suit...will report back...thanks once again. |

Title: Re: Marley plastics.... Post by bstyle on Aug 18th, 2005, 12:17am Osma still sell 3" plastic pipe and fittings, I've bought it in the past. It's not the sort of thing that can be picked up at your local Plumb Center but it is still made. The 3" is equivalent to your 75mm measurement. |

Title: Re: Marley plastics.... Post by JerryD on Aug 18th, 2005, 11:28pm I've just bought a load of 3" Osma pipe and fittings, off the shelf at Builder Center. All grey above ground stuff. Using it for draining a large flat roof (6 roof outlets). |
|
Title: Re: Marley plastics.... Post by chrishutt on Aug 18th, 2005, 11:54pm I think you guys must be referring to the normal 3" soil pipework which has an outside diameter of 82mm. The poster needs something to match soil pipe with an OD of 75mm. If you have something with 75mm OD please give details. By the way, Wotamess, do you realise that you can't discharge a normal WC into 3" (82mm OD) soil pipework? The pipe must not be smaller than outlet of WC (normally 100mm). So I think you may have to dig down to drain connection anyway. |

Title: Re: Marley plastics....photos Post by wotamess on Sep 21st, 2005, 1:51pm :-/..update on how I have managed to join the Marley 82mm to the original 75mm Osma.. I have gone with the assumption that because it was ok to use the Osma for the soilstack originally, it must be ok to utilise it now only with a larger section. Can anyone explain how to post photos...I have clicked the insert image icon but not very helpful... |

No it won't last, solvent weld or gap cement is what you should have used. |

Title: Re: Marley plastics.... Post by greg on Oct 1st, 2005, 7:01pm Really think you ought to make the soil pipe 4", for all the running about you've been doing, you could have dug it up by now |
|
Title: Re: Marley plastics.... Post by wotamess on Oct 2nd, 2005, 1:18am Thanks for your two pennorth greg..might have had a go if the gas supply pipe was a little further away from the soil stack...distance being about 8 inches (or 203mm) ...didn't fancy disturbing that! |
