thinking of building a porch, which will be across the gas, electric and water pipes.

water is half inch imperial, is it worth replacing with mdpe whilst the oppotunity is there?

Probably, depending on what sort of hot water system you have, or intend to have in the future. Upgrading to 25mm mdpe would ensure good supply for, for example, unvented cylinder, providing upgrade extended back to water main. For the section in the street, the local water co. must carry out work, at considerable cost unless there is a lead pipe.

thanks mate,
ill replace the section with 25mm as far asthe stop tap which is just off the boundry then as we intend to have a combi at some point in the future.

i take it it needs to be 750mm deep? in sand with warning tape of is that not needed on private land? ???

also, how do i go about taking it into the property? it would need to come along theside of the house in an enclosed allyway, then go in from the side

just dig out a square next to the wall and drill a hole?

as for the mains stop tap out front, its a terraced house and there are 3 stop cocks

1 is in the middle of the pavement ina square drain about 4 inch square

then on the boundry there are two round ones next to eachother

this is the same all the way up the street every two houses, i take it the one on our side is ours the one on the other house's sideis the neibours and the square one between the 2 further in the street isolates both?

You need to contact your local water company to find out exactly what their requirements are. Certainly 750mm deep, but possibly with tracer wire. Water company must make connection to their stop tap in street, so check with them first.

Gas regs do not allow you to build above gas mains. And it would extremely fool hardy to ignore this reg.

so how does the gas get into houses then ???

a lintel as it goes through structual brickwork....simple...

Gas mains enter buildings through the exterior wall ie not under the building. You may find gas mains under buildings but they do not comply with regs.

2-3 years ago, BG moved all the meters outside when they replaced the main pipes, originally the pipe came in underground below the solem so must have come into the house below or through the founds

well, my house has it just above foundation level, same as every house here.

it was obviously allowed when the houses were built, so its gunna stay like it. end of. unless they will move all the pipework for free

ill just build arround it, simple as that

What about the classic meter position of cupboard under the stairs? Gas main always seems to come up through the floor in the middle of the house?

Also what about meters in the garage? Usually the gas pipe comes through the garage floor up to the meter?

In both cases the gas main always enters the property below ground level.

jerry ya a git lol, advice on me plumbin from a builder but no advice on the buildin! what next? a plumber tellin me how to build me house and sparkxxx to tell me i shouldent have foundations running under me ouse?
