Title: Kitchen, finally finished
Post by woodsmith on May 1st, 2006, 3:50pm

I've finally finished Mrs W's kitchen, two and a half times over budget :o, partly because the client kept changing her mind ::) and the decision to fit an AGA. I did everything myself except the plastering and it has taken months and months. All in oak with a granite top to the island unit.

Thanks,

BA I'm too tired to have a good time ::)

Mal Mrs W works away 4 days a week so have to use it :-/

Wolf Molly has her rug in front of the island unit fortunately she no longer chews.

The oak is finished with Liberon finishing oil, the inside of the birch ply cabinets is well erm quick drying acrylic something or other, I forget now :-X ::)

Lofty, good idea, only problem no one is allowed into the kitchen at the moment. Mrs W's orders, she must be obeyed ;D

Now, that does look nice!  I reckon you should send 'er indoors an invoice.  ;)

btw, how is it we can see your worktops?  In my house they're invisible due to clutter, school books, files, folders, plates, junk, toys, musical instruments, phone chargers, fruit bowls, tools, washing, plants, paint pots, newspapers, birthday cards, invoices, gas bills, magazines etc etc etc.

I'm beginning to realise my house is a tip  ;D

Because JD, just behind the camera person, is a bloody great big skip!!!! full of blenders, toasters all other kitchen appliances, reciepe books etc etc etc!!!!!! ;D ;D

these photo's are like the ones i took of my kitchen when i'd finished... and about 30 mins later, no viewable work surface anywhere!!  even with 10 linear metres worth!!!!!!!  damned women!!!

you do a grand job and they hide it with CLUTTER!!!!!!! >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Scruff its amazing what you can make with a few offcuts ;) actually I used £5000 of oak and beech (for the drawers)

I went out yesterday to quote for yet another bathroom :(

I'd fitted a kitchen for them a couple of years ago, had a look and you could hardly get in the room, not one inch of worktop could be seen anywhere. You wouldn't believe the junk piled up. And the worst was to come when they said;

"we tell everyone you fitted our kitchen" :(

did you build the units yourself??

Morning Greenstratman!, i think you will find that Woodsmith, hand built all the units in his Kitchen (sorry W/S ..his WIFES kitchen! ;D)...That way you get what sizes and shapes the room/area needs!
for some reason , "we" joiners/carpenters have this strange affliction , of build not buy on items such as kitchen/bedroom cabinetry!! it may cost more, but we know they will last!!
Fantastic job W/S has done? don't ya reckon!!!

Looks fabulous. I don't suppose you want to build another one? On second thoughts by budget's probably shot.

Yes they are 18mm birch ply joined with pocket hole screws with an oak face frame.

Construction details will be in The Woodworker magazine.

And Wolf, I built the units in the workshop

hi

i thought so.  like you say wolf, everything fits!

i fancy starting from scratch the wife may disagree.  although, with scratch building you can do a bit at a time and fit when everything is ready.

i have an elu mof177e that is just itching to go for it!! :-D

sh1te, too much food for thought!! ;)

are there any other resources for cabinet plans etc?? ???

cheers

My dad always asked for 100% discount. Sometimes the reply was "Oh you get discount do you?" To which there is only one answer really.
