Title: warped 6 panel doors
Post by sparxxxx on Jun 11th, 2006, 5:40pm

got 2 No 6 panel doors that are warped by about 20 mm top to bottom - about 20 years old probably from Taiwan or similar -  therefore not top quality.
Is there any way of straightening them or should I have a bonfire.

you wont straiten such an old door unless its gone because its been soaked [dipping ect] then it may return when dry

the usual way to deal with a door like this is spread it over the four corners

remove the doorstop

move the  hinge diagonaly opposit the corner sticking out 5mm out
and the other hinge 5mm in towards the doorstop

this has the effect of placing a 5mm discrepancy in each corner

refit doorstop[new will be best ]

dont blame you ;D ;D ;D ;)

the only trouble is the new doors are likely to be poorer quality and just as warped
unless you pay a bit more and check the door first ::)

If they aren't painted finished and you are going to burn them anyway... You could try this first ...

Throw a few buckets of water over them until well soaked. Jig them up on bricks and weight down with more so that they are twisted 20mm in the oppsite direction to the existing warp. Leave to dry for many days under cover. Works reasonably well for model aircraft wings (at least if the glue is waterproof).
