Title: Garage door Post by CWatters on Aug 8th, 2006, 4:23pm Went to see a garage door company today. Spotted a really really nice door but on closer inspection I see it's oak - so I tried not to look too surprised when he told me the list figure is around £3200 ! (vs £1600-£1800) in Cedar. This is for a door around 2.9m wide by 2.0/2.1 high with a pedestrian/wicket door built in. Price includes non-motorised running gear. The design is a simple framed and vertically planked door, no arched top or curved twiddly bits. The back of both doors are framed with one diagonal brace (i think). Would it be worth me investigating buying the gear and getting someone to make up a similar oak door? There are several good companies around here that could do it but I don't want to waste their time getting formal quotes if they are unlikely to improve much on the cost. |

Title: Re: Garage door Post by WOLF on Aug 8th, 2006, 9:32pm The only real way is to ask dear chap,i am finding lately that prices are begining to really widen in terms of manufacturing prices with new little timber companies popping up all over the place....... you may also try and find out what sort of oak the G.D. manufacturer uses, as this can make a difference, but it may be worth the ask!!! go for it!! |
