Title: Roof Joists and Woodworm Post by Gammy_leg on Sep 27th, 2006, 4:56pm Chaps, Are new roof joists pre treated for woodworm. My house had an extension built in the late 90's and it included a new roof. I have just finished treating the existing 1930's roof timbers and was wondering whether I need to spray the new ones as well. Thanks Gammy |

Title: Re: Roof Joists and Woodworm Post by WOLF on Sep 27th, 2006, 11:17pm new timbers are not usually pre-treated for anything such as woodworm!! they may be tanalised and that is about it!!! so i'd spray it all dear chap!! the old safe rather than sorry syndrome!! ;) |

Title: Re: Roof Joists and Woodworm Post by MarkS on Oct 8th, 2006, 9:36am probably some softwood like pine. In the old days they used decent wood to make the roof, these days they use... Oh Dear!....cheap pine. Your Roof Truss *is* the sacrifice! check the roof structure. Woodworm like fairly damp conditions - any condensation probs ? Ventilation ? leaks ? |
