Title: Ceramic taps
Post by Flashbang on Oct 26th, 2006, 11:08am

Hi all
Help please...
Ceramic tap that has become very stiff to turn off (tap mixes Hot & cold with one turn of the lever)
What is the recommend action to free up the item?  What if once stripped down (if this is possible?) is the recommended lubricant for ceramics if any?

Cheers  ;)

There may be a buildup of limescale in the workings, try one of the limescale removers, a good soak of all the parts for 24hrs may work.

If you know the make you could order a replacement or if its Ideal Standard they have a lifetime gaurantee so will change FOC

When we lived in Belgium the local DIY stores had replacement ceramic cartridges. I've not yet had to fine them in the UK. They had what looked like vaselene on them.

Some listed on this page..

Now that I think about it the so called standard 1/2" cartridge came with different length splines on the top. I remember having to take one lot back to get it exchanged
