Title: Radiators!
Post by kp1512 on Jan 22nd, 2007, 5:38pm

Hmmm Yesterday I took the air out of all my radiators in teh house. Basically the lower part was semi warm and the top was cold.

After taking the air out, all was ok

Today I went back and same thing!

What could this be?

Perhaps it likes being in a nice warm radiator  [smiley=wacky.gif] [smiley=wacky.gif] [smiley=wacky.gif] [smiley=wacky.gif]

Need lots more info, type of system, oven vented, fully pumped, sealed, gravity hot water, combi, age, boiler make and model.

Pumped, Gravity, boiler is around 20 years old but was serviced around 5 months back, is an old Honeywell if memory serves me right.

Where the boiler is, I have an exteral grill which lets out warm air...Im assuming this is the vent?....

does that help?

Not a lot.

Turn the boiler off, then hold a large glass of water under the vent pipe, (the small header tank)  then get someone to turn the boiler on, does it suck the water out of the glass.

I gather from your reply, thats pumped heating, gravity hot water, and the rest I would hate to guess.

Honeywell make control valves etc but not boilers, do you have a Honeywell valve connected to the heating circuit, ( a brass thingy with a silver top )

Need the make and model of the boiler.

Hey  Buddy

I sorted it!....I tell you....i have got so much help of this place lol...what happened, was that we had 2 new Doubel Rads put in downstairs in the hall way and side...one of them had around 3 minute holes in the copped pipe...was erally odd!...I spotted it when I kept swtiching off the system and off...to hear the startup and the pumps push the water around...and all i heard was a HISS...and minute specs of water....

Thanks bud!

I was gonna say that you have three minute holes in the copper pipe  ;D

Seriously though you had better check for signs of corrosion if the pipes are pinholing.

Ahhh I see...is "pinholing" common? these were brand new copper pipes...what could have caused this mate?

If they are new pipes you could have a big problem, and it needs to be addressed sooner than later.

Does the system have an inhibitor for starters, and has it been flushed. Brand name if any (please don't say Fernox).

Do you know a good sparky, I gather there are some about  ;D

Would then want a full run down of the system, including the make/model of the boiler, the same with the rads, is all the pipework copper, is it a diy job, how about the sparky bits, what type of supply and is it new as well.
