Was changing some window sash cords yesterday and would like to know the different ways people use to hold the cord while fixing cord to window.

Once the length of cord is found and cut , insert the two clout nails you are going to use to afix each cord to each side, into the cord at spacings you need!

thread the cord to meet the weight!!! (cue available joke!)..and once the cord is tied to the weight, pull up the cord, until weight is at the top of weight box! then insert an 1½" panel pin through the cord to retain it whilst you carefully nail in the clout nails with the cord being slack.. nice and easy !!!!

and for those who do not know the weight joke... it spans from people trying to be clever and send someone for the obligatory "LONG WAIT!"

well certain peope were more than hacked off when i came back with a 7 pound, sash weight... affectionately know as a LONG WEIGHT!!!!!!!

Used to do it that way myself but now i use a piece of wood shaped to wedge between the cord and the wheel housing. I find it easier to push in the wood while holding the cord rather than try to put the pin in, also it means not having to put a nail through the cord which i feel could weaken it and no extra nail holes in frame.

If you use the correct braided cord, then when you have pulled the weight up wards the guide wheel, then give the cord a small twist anti clockwise, it opens up the braids so you are not actually doing ANY damage to the cord,when inserting the pin! let alone weakening it!

i know there are loads of differing types of cords out there they state are for sash units, but , they are not the same as a correct braided cord!
