do u have to clamp up 45degree mitres on 40 mm hardwood worktops
or is there a alternative ?

Solid wood worktops are probably best butt jointed together with standard "figure 8" worktop connector bolts to hold them together. Does your worktop have a profiled (rounded) edge?

The just butt joint with a bead of silicone in the joint. The workjtop joiners will actually allow a small amount of movement for expansion and contraction
