Title: Gas fire switching itself off
Post by George_N on Apr 20th, 2007, 11:49am

I have a "living flame" gas fire (Valor something or other) which has developed a habit of turning itself off. This is intermitent, sometimes it will burn all evening and sometimes it will turn off after a couple of minutes. When it does this the pilot light goes out too. My thought is that the thermocouple is faulty but I would like some more info before I call someone in to look at it (I have read the warnings about DIY gas work).

Model required as they have safety bits that will shut the fire down (hopefully) to prevent it killing you with Nasty stuff. in a fault condition.

I've had a look at the Baxi/Valor web site and it looks like the model is the Valor Bolero, with the manual controls at the bottom. The fire is about two years old and has not been used a lot. When the fire started playing up we took out the ceramic coals and vacuumed out any soot and dirt. The chimney was swept before installation and the flue checked by both the sweep and the gas fitter who installed the fire (smoke pellet test) and it was ok.

As i have already mentioned.

The fire has a flame supervision & spillage monitoring system.

This pilot unit incorporates a system which will automatically shut off the gas supply if the pilot flame goes out or it there is insufficient oxygen due to spillage or lack of ventilation.

You must not use the fire untill it is checked out by an RGI
