Hi
I have just fitted a new kitchen waste outlet to my sink. It has a banjo unit for the overflow that has two plastic sealing washers. Unfortunately water appears to be leaking down the screw threads past the back nut. How do you seal these things ?

Is it a cast iron/enamel sink? Sometimes the finish on the outside of the sink is quite rough. Have to use a soft rubber washer instead of plastic or some silicon to seal.

The sink is acrylic or similar and the seal at that end is ok. I think I need to coat the threads with silicone or something before I tighten the nut up.

Angler,
Are the things tight enough? Sometime a ¼ of a turn will fix a leak (one of mine got adjusted with kitchen sealer years ago and its still ok if you want to bodge it)

If not Im sure a plumber will be along in a while

You did put the thing together properly? Sometimes the plastic washer things only go one way round

Take the waste out of the sink and dry it with an hair drier.

Apply a small bead of silicon around the flange of the waste and reasemble, not forgetting the washer on the bottom of the sink only.
