Found some old wet rot damage on end of external rafter under some decorative cladding. There are no structural implications. Is it ok just to replace the cladding or should I treat the damaged timber in some way, none of it will be visible after replacing the cladding.
This is damage from over 20 years ago. Many thanks.

Also seen chippies on site using a blue filler foam to hold door frames in place, the stuff sets rock hard any ideas what it is.

would definatly at minimum treat it

are you shure the timbers dont do anything !!!!
would suspect they support the soffits and bardgeboards ect

best solution is replace the soft timber overlapping /splicing as nessesery

if the ends definatly serve no purpose best to remove to solid timber as soft timber will hold water like a sponge

any odd soft spots that arnt effecting the structure and are to difficult to remove should be treated with stabelising solution /wood hardner and that will repell the water

I'd also check to see why they rotted. Is the felt damaged? It often goes at the eaves where it comes forward into the gutter you would be wise to fix anything like that first.

I've not seen the blue foam, I've used Fischer two part frame fixing foam but I haven't even seen that on sale for a while :-/
