Title: Curving parting bead.
Post by daveyman on Mar 21st, 2008, 2:48pm

Hi,
I need to refurbish an arched top sash window. Not sure of the best way to tackle replacing the parting bead with a draught proofed version. I dont see that doing it the old fashioned way of putting in sections and then cutting the curve to match would be very practical and I've seen it done previously by cutting grooves into a straight piece and curving it that way, but quite frankly the end result looked awful!......... Is there a third and less time consuming way?

Thanks
Dave.

you could laminate from say 3mm strips over a former

or you could steam bend it although i wouldnt expect steaming to be  very succesfull

Thanks for the reply, not sure the client would go for laminating as they've avoided plastic draught seal in favour of keeping the window fully timber in appearance. I'm using a slotted brush strip on the concealed sides of the parting bead.

ha ha..... and the penny drops!  ::)
Yeah, I can picture it now. It'll definately offer a better finish - I'll give it a go.

Thanks again.
