Title: What surface to cut from? Post by juco on Mar 21st, 2008, 8:06pm I want to trim some kickboard for a kitchen using a circular saw. Is my reckoning correct as per diagram in that the blade should come down on the surface that will be on view to avoid a ragged edge? thanks |

Title: Re: What surface to cut from? Post by big_all on Mar 22nd, 2008, 12:15pm your drawing is just confusing the situation :o :o with the exception of a laminate jigsaw blade that pushes/cuts away from the base plate all blades will pull the wood on to the base plate or table so in your diagram the blade traveling down is at the back of the saw on a circular saw or the front on a table saw the blade on a circular saw will "lift" the wood onto the base plate and break out as the blade peirces the surface so the answer to your question on a circular saw the breakout is on the top surface on a table saw its underneath 8-) 8-) |

Title: Re: What surface to cut from? Post by woodsmith on Mar 22nd, 2008, 12:19pm When you cut with a circular saw the better edge is normally the bottom (underneath) edge. Set the blade depth so that the teeth project about 5mm below the surface for the best results. |
