Title: rain water collection support structure
Post by toucan on Jul 20th, 2008, 10:46am

Hi,
I have up to three IBC 1000lt tanks which I want to position at a height of approx 15ft under a large barn guttering. I anticipate constructing a wooden structure to support these. Yes it needs to be substantial. I have looked for suitable designs online without success. Has anyone done anything like this before, are there any designs available which I could adapt. I imagine creating a crane jib type structure with suitably sized timbers. Maybe this is a silly idea but I want to avoid electrics/pumps if possible. Its purpose is to supply water to a polytunnel nearby.

Thanks

toucan

Perhaps...

Otherwise it might help to look at the weight of clay roof tiles..70-80kg/m^2 I believe.  Then look at the sort of construction used on green oak barns with tiled roofs...something like 7" square post and horizontals, plus diagonals to take wind loads.
