Title: PIR's
Post by Hoopsman on Feb 4th, 2009, 9:48am

I have a large room in a house (6m X 3m) where there are 16 12V spotlights. The owner would like to have 2 PIR's fitted in the room, so that when the room is not being used the lights go out and when they walk into the room the lights come on. Is it possible to connect 2 PIR's to one switch? :-?

You get different types of PIRs, some can be connected to achieve what you want to do. Most need a neutral connected to the PIR so bear that in mind because quite often light switches don't have a neutral running to them.

You get what's called occupancy sensors, which are still PIR detectors but are specifically designed for the purpose that you require. All the ones I've fitted thus far require a neutral to operate though.

If no neutral is available AND you can't put one in, then perhaps a wireless type solution would suit you.

Bear in mind the lights may go out if they sit still in the room.

Made me smile!  Visions of elderly ladies sat stationary around a table, oiuja board in front.

"Is there anybody there?  Is there anybody there?"

Then the lights go out !!!! ;D
