Title: low voltage, downlights and 2 smoking transformers Post by seagull on Feb 6th, 2009, 5:05pm having given up installing low voltage downlights years ago (due to getting the odd call back for burnt out transformers) , I now only put in 240 volt fittings.....( with no re-calls to date).. I no i am going to sound a bit thick here but what was the big idea of using transformers in the first place? and should they all be enclosed fittings due to the fact the customer may melt their fingertips if they touch them... :-? |

Title: Re: low voltage, downlights and 2 smoking transformers Post by Lectrician on Feb 6th, 2009, 8:13pm ELV lamps give a far superior light, crisper and cleaner, and per watt.......brighter. You need to ensure your you use decent trannies - There are many decent makes. JCC had issues last year, but recently they are fine. There are some more expensive makes too. Tranformers need to be kept clear of insulation. This can be an issue in new builds, as even the ground floor ceilings are insulated. I much prefer ELV to LV(mains). However, we probably fit a 50/50 of each. |
