Title: Earth Leakage trip v RCD/RCCB
Post by Scottie on Mar 2nd, 2009, 11:46am

I am looking at the mains electric circuits on board an old boat. They currently have an old 60 amp 2 pole Earth leakage trip on the incoming, leading to a standard fused 4 way consumer unit. All works ok but would it be safer to/and should they change to an RCD or an RCCB incoming device and change the consumer unit to an MCB consumer unit. On shore the mains supply has its own  Earth trip and supply is through another fused box.

Our regs dont apply to boats, but an RCD would be better.

Have a look at this

Also Earth Leakage CBs if voltage operated are outside of BS7671
