Title: Shed/Garden wiring advice Post by chompy on Jul 2nd, 2009, 2:31pm Hello, I'd like to wire up my shed for power and light and also put a number of power sockets in the garden (3 in total). I would like to buy all the bits and do the cable runs myself and then leave an electrician to do the wiring. I have a few questions which it would be great if anyone could help out on. - The cu in the house is full how should i upgrade this to be able to get a cu in the shed? -Are the power sockets that are placed around the garden done on a ring main or a spur from the shed cu? - What is the best way to earth the whole lot, the shed is an all wood construction? - What size swa is most suitable and how many cores? I think thats all. Any help would be greatly appreciated Many Thanks Jon |

Title: Re: Shed/Garden wiring advice Post by CWatters on Jul 2nd, 2009, 3:34pm Probably best to get the electrician sorted first. Ask for a quote and tell him you will dig all the trenches and put the cable in if he tells you what and where it has to go. I'm not an electrician but most of your questions probably need more info to answer. What sort of earth system is used in the house? How many garden sockets, cable lengths etc. Are there any lights and do you want to be able to switch them on from inside the house? and an PIR sensor? |

Title: Re: Shed/Garden wiring advice Post by Zambezi on Jul 2nd, 2009, 9:35pm As CWatters said, best to get a spark to tell you what he wants where, sizes and positions of cables etc, you do the digging etc and then he comes back to connects it all up. After it is all inspected then you can cover it up and make good. I would not like to sign off something I did not specify, route etc. For all I know you may have buried the cable 50mm under the ground when I asked for it to be 600mm deep :o |
