Title: Re: shaver socket Post by Zambezi on Jul 2nd, 2009, 10:01pm Normally off the bathroom lighting circuit. I don't see why you could not take it off a ring but it may need a fused spur before the shaver socket. |

I believe thats all about "zones"...See for example... http://www.allupandon.co.uk/lighting/information/bathroomzones Electrical fittings in each zone must have a certain IP rating (or better). IP ratings refer to how dust and water tight the fitting is. This MK shaver socket ... http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Technical/DataSheets/MK/K701.pdf ..is rated IP41 so it's reasonably dust proof but not very waterproof. It must go outside zone 2. |

Title: Re: shaver socket Post by wozzy on Jul 4th, 2009, 3:17pm is the zone around the sink a regulation or a recomendation? and isnt it usually 300mm not 600mm? |

according to the diagrams in bs 7671 2008, there isn't a zone around the sink, the only time the sink would fall into zone 2 is if it were installed within 600mm of a bath or shower, I think the shaver socket needs to be mounted in a suitable position. Putting it right next to a tap wouldn't be suitable. If there is a zone around a sink, that's a recommendation by MK. It's not a reg, but manufacturers instruction override the regs. So when installing the MK shaver socket it has to be installed to their instruction. Regards Carl |
