Hi

I have a large yard which my dogs use daily and it gets muddy. I have a drain leading to a soak away in the garden which is permanently blocked. I have had my arm down it loads in the last month and i want to fix it so it doesn't block if possible. It goes straight down and then into a "u" bend, the U bend is where all the sediment is settling and causing the blockage. Can i dig it out and run it into the foul drain in sted of a soak away as the last couple of weeks the yard has just been underwater permanatly.

It depends on the local water regs. Not all areas allow you to put surface water into the foul sewer. Depends if you have "combined sewers" or not. Where does the water go off your roof? If that goes into the sewer then probably ok. The world is moving away from combined sewers to increased use of soakaways because of the problems caused by flooding.

PS You would still use a U-bend/trap unless you want the garden to stink.
