Title: Longevity of gate valves
Post by londonman on Feb 3rd, 2010, 3:49pm

Would I be right in saying that gate valves stop working after 19 years?  Reason for asking is that I had occasion to use a couple of gate valves and neither will shut off the (low pressure) water on 22mm pipes.

I hate gate valves and I never fit them, I always use 1/4 turn lever valves.
I don't think I have ever been to a job where a gate valve has worked properly, I guess that is why pipe freezers are popular  ::)

Gate valves, Stopcocks, and even 1/4turn valves need regular maintenance to keep them in good working order.

I turn all mine off and on at least twice a year.  ::)
