Title: smoke alarms
Post by starflip on Mar 21st, 2010, 12:25pm

Hopefully someone can help.... I have been asked by a to put in smoke alarms in a block of three flats, one ionisation and one heat interlinked per flat, went to have a look, but the fuseboards were old 4 way wylex rewireable boards in each. Surely it doesnt need new boards or rcd protection if im just coming off a light to feed these fished in the ceiling?? Anyone know??

You need to ensure YOUR wiring complies.  If YOUR wiring is not conceiled in a wall then there is no need for RCD protection.

Interlinking may be cheaper if you use the AICO easyfit smokes and purchase the radio bases too - just two feeds to pickup then.  Pounds more for the bases, but a saver in labour.  Depends on the install obviously.
