I need some advise about building foundations for a lean to be built onto the side of a typical london terraced house. As a simple wooden structure it will measure aprox 2.2m wide x 4m long with a height of 3m. The existing ground it is to be built on is already concrete. My question is what if the best way to deal/ build the foundations for this structure.

What materials is this lean to being built from? If it's a brick structure (or an extension to the house) then Building Regs will require you to comply with the 'big book' of regulations. That will entail removing the old concrete and excavating new foundations, probably at least 1 metre deep. Check with you local authority building control department.

You may need planning permission and building regs approval for this work.

And what is the lean-to to be used for? It makes a hell of a difference.
