i need to add some down lights to existing circuit,but there is no rcd protection in the cu for the existing circuit. Can i cut into the bathroom lighting circuit and add a rcd spur? thanks all....

Are the lights you are adding in the bathroom? Is the switch a pull cord? Have you got supplementary bonding? If you can answer Yes, Yes, Yes, then you don't need an RCD.

If you do want to fit an RCD, you could fit one in or adjacent the consumer unit, or indeed by the bathroom somewhere if you so wish. You could use an RCD FCU, but I would just use a standard RCD in an enclosure personally. Somewhere out of site.
