Title: Hot water Cylinder for old style back boiler Post by bantam_dave21 on Oct 2nd, 2010, 4:17pm Hi all, my first post here - so hope you can help in my dilemma. My mums hot water tank has started leaking pretty bad, so thinking obtaining a replacement would be fairly easy. the leaking tank is now out, the tank is a 900x450 direct vented copper cylinder. Only difference from the norm is that it has extra tappings for convection flow and return from an cold coal fired back boiler. i don't seem to be able to get a cylinder identical to this anywhere. All available cylinders I can find at high street places and plumbers outlets combined are direct cylinders the correct size and capacity but with the following tappings. 1 - HW out, top of tank 2 - immersion element hole (at 45° at top of tank) 3 - what I would class as Cold water in at base of tank 4 - another 1" fitting roughly two thirds up the tank In short all the tanks are short of one tapping for what I require (think an indirect cylinder with the holes for the coil but no actual coil) Any help/advice immensely appreciated Regards Dave |

Title: Re: Hot water Cylinder for old style back boiler Post by bantam_dave21 on Oct 2nd, 2010, 4:19pm Kinda missed a bit there didn't I ?? the help required is where can I get one of these cylinders from? Will I have to go direct to a manufacturer? OR can the readily available cylinders with one less hole be made to work with the system that is existing? obviously I'd rather steer cleer of having to swap to an indirect cylinder and having to add an F + E cylinder in the loft just for a back boiler - lol thanks again dave |

Title: Re: Hot water Cylinder for old style back boiler Post by greg on Oct 3rd, 2010, 12:21pm May be Im missing something here, but, if you have flow and return from a B/B then the cylinder will be an indirect not direct. |

Title: Re: Hot water Cylinder for old style back boiler Post by thescruff on Oct 4th, 2010, 1:39am No Greg an old coal fire with a water jacket could well be direct. Don't know why you're having problems finding one though. ::) http://www.bes.co.uk/products/107.asp 900 x 450 with 4 tappings and an immersion heater boss. Ask to speak to Keven and he may give you a discount if you mention thescruff at OPGO. ::) |
