Title: connecting waste pipes to horizontal run soil pipe
Post by sdlegg on Nov 21st, 2010, 1:33pm

I am creating a first floor internal bathroom i.e. no external wall. The wc which connects to a 110mm soil pipe has a run of 2.20M to an external wall. The soil stack is about 2.5M further along the outside wall, making a total run of 4.5M. I would like to connect the basin and shower/bath waste pipes to the soil pipe (running between the floor boards and the ground floor ceiling) before it reaches the external wall. There is not enough space between floor boards and the ceiling to use a manifold. There is not enough room to connect the basin and bath wastes into the top of the 110mm soil pipe. Can I connect the basin and bath wastes into the side of the 110mm soil pipe under the floor boards? If not, what other options are there?

Part H says...

http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/uploads/br/BR_PDF_ADH_2002.pdf

Quote:
1.17 Junctions on branch pipes of about the same diameter should be made with a sweep of 25mm or at 45 degrees. <snip>

1.18 Branch pipes upto 40mm diameter joining branch pipes 100mm diameter or greater should if practical connect to the upper part of the pipe wall of the larger branch

So I guess you could use a 45 degree branch and a reducer.

Rather than run a pipe in boxing along the bottom of a wall we choose to loose a little space and built a false wall. Same wall also has wall mounted taps and spout for a free standing bath.

The fall on the 110mm pipe needs to be around 1:40 or 60mm over the 2.2m.

Many thanks for your reponse.
Just to be sure I use the correct fitting would a

GREY 4" x 45deg TS BRANCH
Ref: SL065

Grey 4 Inch Soil 45 Degree Triple Socket Branch

Found at: http://www.plumbingworld.co.uk/onlinestore/Online_Store_UPVC_PUSHFIT_SOIL_SYSTEMS_6.html

be the item I require? If so would I be able to connect both basin and bath pipes into this i.e. connect them together and then into the end of the 110 soil pipe with a reducer to 50mm pipe? Or is there a better way.

Thanks again.

Stephen

Ideally you would connect into the top of the 110mm pipe by coming up through the floor but if that's unacceptable I would try the 45 degree branch. The idea being to inject the bath/basin water in the direction of flow.

Another approach would be to run a seperate pipe to the outside wall alongside the one for the WC. This would need to be 50mm diameter.  Might be just as easy to use a second 110mm run? Some planning would be needed because if the two runs are too close together it might be hard to join them together outside.

PS I don't really like using the rubber push fit reducers on horizontal pipes.

Again many thanks for this I will look at the situation today and see which way to go.
