Title: Halstead Eden Vb boiler keeps turning itself off. Post by Lizzie on Dec 27th, 2010, 2:16pm Since the snow arrived. My condensing boiler keeps turning itself off. It's in the garage and there's a water pipe that goes outside to a drain, I've cleared the snow from around this. I called a plumber out just before Christmas and he said it was probably an air lock and bled all the radiators. This hasn't solved the problem and its getting worse. It looks like the boiler is leaking inside the garage, plumber said this was because the outside pipe was frozen and the water has nowhere to go and it needed plumbing into a waste inside the garage. He said this was a problem with Halstead boilers and I may need a new one! It's four years old. The error code showing is F1, although F4 showed last night. Help please |

Title: Re: Halstead Eden Vb boiler keeps turning itself off. Post by CWatters on Dec 27th, 2010, 4:45pm I don't know if error code F1 means the condensate drain is frozen but sounds like it might be. It's a common problem with many makes of boiler but it can be avoided. For starters any section of the pipe outdoors should be of sufficient size and insulated. Many plumbers use too small a pipe which makes it prone to freezing. Watch this video from another boiler manufacturer ... http://www.worcester-bosch.co.uk/homeowner/customer-service/common-winter-boiler-enquiries Routing the pipe to a drain indoors is a good solution IF there is a drain handy. If there isn't then it's an expensive option. Other solutions such as enlarging the pipe, insulating it or perhaps installing a pipe heater might be easier. |

Title: Re: Halstead Eden Vb boiler keeps turning itself off. Post by Lizzie on Dec 27th, 2010, 5:28pm Thank you for that. I've looked at the videos. I did try to buy some pipe lagging but everywhere was sold out. I've made some of my own for outside with newspaper, cardboard and plastic bags and bubble wrap- better than nothing. (Working on the old school insulating drinks problem) I'll have to see if it works. The boiler's shut itself down four times today already! Thanks again |

Title: Re: Halstead Eden Vb boiler keeps turning itself off. Post by juco on Dec 29th, 2010, 10:38pm I am not an engineer but have had similar problems in the cold weather, as mine is also in the garage I just pull the hose where it connects to go through the wall to the soakaway and reconnect when the weather gets warmer. Being untrusting I suspect he is touting for business. |
