Title: Steel Baths
Post by Neville on Dec 17th, 2011, 12:07pm

I'm about to replace a cast iron bath with a steel one, which I have yet to buy. Can anyone please advise me what I should be looking for in a steel bath to ensure it's a quality bath but not a huge price.  I've seen on in the Screwfix catalogue at £199.99,not thier cheapest steel bath which claims to be a 'double porcelain enamel bath.  Is this likely to be OK? And how can I tell the gauge of steel...and does it even matter?  Many thanks.

Ask a bathroom supplier for a brochure on "Kaldewei" steel baths, they have the best finish/steel thickness about at the moment for the price!!

Thanks very much Timba-Wolf.  I've looked at Kaldewei as you suggested and they seem to have 3.5mm steel Saniform ones and they look good.  So that's what I will get.  Any idea how to get rid of my existing cast iron bath? The enamel has stained but is anyone likely to be interested in it as it's a brilliant bath.  I had thought about re-enamelling it but I've seen them done and the new finish doesn't last too long.

Thanks for your help and Happy Christmas.

Neville

Take it to a scrap merchant, anywhere between £12-20 at the moment!!

Thanks; will do, but I'll smash it up first. I'm told a lump hammer in the plughole, wearing protective glasses of course, is the best way to start. Cheers [smiley=drink.gif]
